High Five – Principles of Healthy Child Development

Offered as a one-day event, this is often identified as required training for leaders working with youth aged 6 – 12, this course teaches the five key principles and three guidelines that need to be included in all youth programs to ensure safe, positive, and physically engaging experiences.

Leaders will understand what they need to do to ensure that each child’s social, emotional, and cognitive needs are met. They will also learn activities, knowledge, tips, and resources to enhance their programs as well as their relationships with children and other staff members. Topics also include bullying, conflict resolution, children’s mental health and physical literacy.

At the completion of this training, learners will be able to:

  • Design an activity plan to enhance a child’s physical and mental health
  • Build healthy relationships in all areas of programming for children
  • Create environments and spaces that foster healthy child development

 

Once done, participants will receive a certificate of completion and obtain access to other online toolkits and resources.
