Who We Are

Who We Are

Active Sudbury, is a unique partnership among local community agencies. In 2016, Active Sudbury members applied for an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grow Grant to support its efforts in building physical literacy in our community. Active Sudbury values the importance of increasing individuals’ (all citizens’) physical activity levels and sport participation through a “developing physical literacy approach” within the City of Greater Sudbury.

Through a multi-sector strategic alliance where we build capacity, and foster networking and collaboration, we believe we will set the foundation for ongoing success in supporting a physically active community. This strategy will enhance and build partnerships and support our citizens to be active in ways they enjoy. It is our goal to increase physical activity and sport participation amongst all citizens of the Greater Sudbury community, and in doing so, creating a healthier and happier population.

Physical literacy is defined as the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life.

Everyone can develop physical literacy through programming which emphasizes skill development and fun above performance outcomes – regardless of culture, age, gender, income or ability. The development of physical literacy is essential to the lifelong journey of creating an active and healthy life. For more information on physical literacy visit the following links:
