High Five Sport

This training is designed for the competitive coach in a club or sport organization who is working with children 6 to 12 years old. Aligned with the Fundamentals and Learn to Train stages of Sport for Life Long Term Development guide, HIGH FIVE Sport focuses on the social, emotional, and cognitive development and wellbeing of athletes while allowing them to improve their physical literacy. This course reviews the five key principles and three guidelines that need to be included in all youth programs to ensure safe, positive, and physically engaging experiences. The training is based in research and has been designed to help coaches with top coaching dilemmas such as dealing with parents, keeping the child’s interest, ensuring fair play and ensuring an emotionally safe environment.

At the completion of this training, learners will be able to:

  • Identify cognitive, emotional and social development traits of children 6 to 12
  • Determine a coach’s impact on a child’s experience and learn to effectively communicate  with children and their parents
  • Identify strategies to reduce the pressure of competition with children 6 to 12

Once done, participants will receive a certificate of completion, obtain access to other online toolkits and resources, and earn professional development points towards maintenance of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
